We are going to take you into the ocean off of the beautiful coast of Baja to witness one of the rawest displays nature has to offer, the “Mexican Sardine Run.” This expedition will be a 5 night stay below a star studded sky on the magnificent Magdalena Island. Every fall, seasonal upwelling brings a surge of nutrients to surface waters off the coast of Baja California Sur, triggering a feeding frenzy that reverberates throughout the region’s food web. Shoals of Pacific mackerel and sardines will be lured in by the planktonic blooms and it attracts a procession of predators, including seabirds, sea lions, mahi mahi, whales, and obviously the striped marlin. Each morning we will depart the island bright and early in search of baitballs to try and witness the extreme hunting skills of the Striped Marlins, the playfulness of Sea Lions, and get up close with many other pelagic sea species in the area including the Mobula Ray migration, whales, dolphins and more!
